In 1964, Pilot introduced its first Capless push-button system fountain pen. It had one of the most complex mechanisms that Pilot had ever produced. It was named "Knock-shiki" which means "push-knob system." The Knock-shiki system was released with several Capless fountain pens. This particular pen is the C300SW. It was offered in Black, Red, and Green, and it featured stainless steel trim.

The Pilot Capless is unique in the sense that it has a retractable nib unit system. With the push of a button, the nib is extended and ready to write. Similar to a ballpoint pen. The mechanism has been serviced to ensure proper functionality.
