The Pilot Custom 67 has its roots in the limited edition Pilot Custom 65. The model numbers correlate with the age of Pilot. So, the Custom 65 was launched in 1983 the 65th anniversary of Pilot and the Custom 67 was launched in 1985 the 65th anniversay of Pilot.
The Custom 65 was a limited edition model available only in Japan with production limited to 6,500 pieces. Two years later, the Custom 67 was introduced for the mass market. The Custom 67 was also a Japanese Domestic Market only model. It was priced at 10,000 yen at its launch. In 1986, additional colors beyond black were introduced. The Custom 67 was succeeded by the Custom 74 in 1992. The Custom 74 standardized Pilot nibs to be stiffer. Therefore, the Custom 67 has a softer, springier feel than the later Pilot pens.
