They are considered one of the "Big Three" of Japanese major pen manufacturing. Platinum holds that title alongside Pilot and Sailor, producing some of the highest quality fountain pens in Japan.

Platinum nibs are usually made out of 18K gold, but can sometimes be found with 14K, 22K, and even 23K gold in pens produced at the height of the karat wars. They are marked with Chinese symbols known as "Kanji" which indicate the nib size. By translating these symbols, we can properly determine the nib size of each pen.

"極細" XF
"細字" F
"中字" M
"太字" B
"細軟" SF

Beginning in the late 1960s and early 1970s, Platinum offered multiple lines of sheepskin wrapped leather pens. The pens were offered in multiple dyed patterns and designs. This pen comes from the line of Yuzen dyed sheepskin wrapped pens that began being produced in 1974. It features an 18K Gold fine nib. The red leather has a floral design, with the body featuring a red grip section. The pen is in (C) Good condition with some light wear to the leather wrap, moderate scratching on the grip, and an engraved name from the previous owner.
