Montblanc test marketed the VIP fountain pen in 1973. The company decided a slimmer pen was needed in the line-up. Following the successful test, Montblanc launched the Noblesse series of pens in 1974. Production continued through late 90's. The first generation was produced from its launch in '74 till 1981 when the second generation was introduced.

The first generation Noblesse was offered in a variety of finishes including silver plated pinstripe, gold plated pinstripe, and brushed steel. These first generation pens are equipped with fantastic nibs that are simply stamped.
