Founded in Bologna, Italy by Armando Simoni in 1925, OMAS has a long history as one of Italy's premier manufacturers of writing instruments. OMAS is most known for their Ogiva and Extra pen models, often made from unique or rare materials such as ebonite or extravagant celluloids. 

This particular pen is the Limited Edition Amerigo Vespucci fountain pen. This pen was introduced in 1991 to celebrate the 60th Anniversary of the launch of the Italian Naval ship Amerigo Vespucci. The beautiful ship was designed by Lt. Colonel Francesco Rotundi of the Italian Navy Engineering Corps. and was launched in February 1931 at Castellammare di Stabia. Though She is a steel-hulled training ship for the Marina Militare the design of the Amerigo Vespucci was heavily influenced by the wood-hulled Man-of-War's of the 16th, 17th, 18th, and 19th Centuries. 

The pen features red-stained briar wood construction with the gold plated "Greek Key" bands that OMAS is so well known for. It comes with the original box, pamphlets, and warranty paper.
