Montblanc test marketed the VIP fountain pen in 1973. The company decided a slimmer pen was needed in the line-up. Following the successful test, Montblanc launch the Noblesse series of pens in 1974. Production continued through 2004. In the 1980s, Montblanc launched the S-Line of Slimline version of the Noblesse. This included the color CS line. The CS pens and pencils were offered in a matte finish.
