Very Rare Pre Owned Sailor 24K Gold Nibbed Fountain Pen. This pen's party piece is it's super bouncy 24K gold fine nib. This Pen is in good condition. Minor scratches and scuffs can be seen on the barrel, cap, and grip section. Seen below is a translation of the information pamphlet that would have come with the pen.
"About the world's first 24-Karat Gold Pen:
24K gold is used for the nib of this fountain pen. 24-Karat gold pens have long been the dream of enthusiasts and manufacturers. After many years of research, this pen nib was developed with a purity of 99.9% (24K Gold) by pure synthesis with trace amounts of other metals.
In the case of 24-karat gold pens, the properties of the gold themselves are more pronounced than the 14-karat and 18-karat gold pens that are normally used as gold pens, so although they are not as good as these pens in terms of quality, they do have a softer writing feel. Well, it's far superior. Moreover, it is a product that can withstand normal pen pressure (200-400g).
I did it.
With this pen, there is no need to use strong pressure to spread the tip of the pen when writing, so we hope you will be able to write softly while deeply enjoying the characteristics of pure gold."
The 24k nib was introduced in 1996 on the existing Gracile model from Sailor. Although this was long after the end of the "karat wars," this secured Sailor's undispituted lead. The high gold content produces a soft nib that can be scratched with a fingernail. The pen was produced for just a short period of time and is quite scarce today.
