In 1975, Seiko released the two lines that would continue their dominance in the Quartz Revolution for a decade until 1985, when these two product lines were retired. The King and Grand Quartz models from Seiko boasted extreme accuracy which was unheard of at the time of their release. The lowest end model, being the 48KQ, was rated to 10-15 seconds per month. While the highest Twin-Quartz crystal 97KQ model was rated to 20 seconds per year! It achieved this extreme accuracy by utilizing a secondary quartz crystal that's sole purpose was to measure temperature and regulate the primary crystal accordingly.
The Grand Quartz line was similar to the King Quartz, but boasted even higher accuracy ratings and finishing quality. Their lowest end model running similarly to the KQ, the 48GQ was rated to 10-15 seconds per month, while the high end, twin-quartz model, the 99GQ was rated to just 10 seconds per year. For comparison, the current Grand Seiko 9F quartz movements are rated at 10 seconds per year.
Both King and Grand Quartz models are known for their high accuracy as well as their finishing quality. Take notice to the highly detailed dial finishes and decorations. From faceted and chamfered indices to unique dial patterns, both King and Grand Quartz watches are a joy to look at.

A NOTE ON TARIFFS
Importing items into the US has become more expensive in 2025. On August 29th, the US is ending the "de minimis" rule which allowed shipments under $800 to enter the US without tariffs. Those goods will now be assessed a tariff based on their Country Of Origin. Our items are located in the US. There are NO TARIFFS on any of our items when shipped to a US address. When comparing our our offerings to other sellers outside the US, the final price of those items outside the US will be higher. Buyers will incur tariff and clearance fees on their purchases. Some sellers disclose those fees while others only state that the fees will be incurred. For items originally from the EU, Germany, France, Italy, UK and Japan, the tariff is 15%. For items from Switzerland, the tariff is 39%. Clearance and brokerage fees will increase the cost beyond those tariffs. Items are assessed tariffs base on "Country Of Origin" not based on the country from which they are shipped. For example, a Swiss watch shipped from Japan will incur tariffs at the Swiss rate of 39%.
