Pre-owned Ladies Seiko Hi-Beat Watch. Reference 1944-0040. This was the world's first 36,000 hi-beat ladies watch. The calibre 1944 was launched in August 1967, the same month as Seiko's 36,000 hi-beat men's watch. Significant challenges were overcome to produce a 36,000 beat movement in a smaller size. The calibre 1944 was produced between 1967 and 1974. This watch was produced in the final year of production. While over shadowed by men's watches, this first ever ladies hi-beat is historically significant.
The Seiko Cal. 19xx was the basis for this watch as well as the Grand Seiko GS19 women's watch. The Grand Seiko was launched two years after the Seiko 1944. List price for the Grand Seiko was 35,000 yen vs 21,000 yen for the Seiko 1944.
Overall, this watch is in (B) Very Good condition. Wonderful linen dial that presents well.
