While there is little definitive information available about Seiko watches with Ukiyo-e dials, the practice appears to have begun in the late 1960s and 1970s. Certain unknown Seiko retailers were modding the watches as a form of practice for watchmakers. The dial was modified with all applied text, indices and hands removed. A Ukiyo-e image from a stamps was then applied to the dial and the applied text, indices and hands were replaced. The result was a striking Seiko dial while also teaching a skill to watchmakers. The initial stamps used to make the Ukiyo-e dials came from an 11 part series issued by Japan Post Co from 1955 to 1965. Other stamps have since been used to decorate these Seiko dials.

This particular watch is a Seiko Lord Matic, reference 5606-7000. Overall, the watch is in (B) very good condition. Minor scratches and scuffs can be seen on the case, and bezel. The 12 o'clock indices is slightly askew.
