Montblanc test marketed the VIP fountain pen in 1973. The company decided a slimmer pen was needed in the line-up. Following the successful test, Montblanc launch the Noblesse series of pens in 1974. Production continued through 1985. The second generation Noblesse was launched in 1986.

The Montblanc SL or Slimline was an economy version of the first generation Noblesse. The pens featured a gold plated steel nib. Unlike the Noblesse line, the Slimline offers a series of matte finishes called the CS-line (for Color Slim). The CS-line of pens were offered in four matte colors - black, blue, brown, burgundy. The pens also featured the Montblanc snowcap on the pen clip. This was a visual difference with the Noblesse line. Colors and finishes changed with the second generation of Noblesse launched in 1986.

This pen features a Fine steel nib. The condition in (D) Fair.
